Hey guys, I’m back! Sleep deprived and barely animated, but back!

Today will be my second last post. I’ll be disappearing into my bat cave to work on my book as of next week :) …nut things out… bring on the brainstorming bonanza… strap myself to the beast… and all that.

Hello fellow AWARDIANS. How are we? Unfortunately I have been unwell (cue violin) and subsequently missing out on quality AWARD-learnings. I hear this week’s lecture was on Ideas and Integration. Was it good? What was the highlight? Got some awesome notes? Let me know so we can share the love/knowledge!

Far out! Is it that time already? Just typing ‘week 9′ scares me :/ There’s only around 5 weeks left till it’s all due and I have to tell you, for me, it doesn’t seem enough. I’m told that some people ‘click’ early on in the course and others, right at the end. The ‘clicking’ moment is supposed to take you from ‘I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’ll pretend I do’, to ‘Dude, I totally get it now’. Supposedly  your new ‘clicked-self”  is able to look at your work and identify what is a good idea and what’s not, at least to some extent anyway. Suffice to say, I’m still waiting to ‘click’. Waiting and working, working and waiting, or waiting for it to work… I can’t decide.

I have to say my new class didn’t go so well with this week’s digital brief. I think a lot of people were thrown by the ‘digital’ aspect. Most people came in with one of the following:  ideas… digital executions or neither (quiet seriously).

Second half of AWARD School here I come! How productive/unproductive were you guys over the break? I’m still far from happy with everything I’ve done, that’s for sure! I’m switching to a different tutor group this half (swapping with another girl)…will be interesting to see how some of the other students are going with these briefs. So as of tomorrow, I’ll be at JWT Sydney being tutored by Ashadi Hopper, the National Digital Creative Director.

Last night’s lecture was by Chris James from Ogilvy One on Ideas and Online. I have to admit, Chris spoke really fast and I didn’t catch terribly much. So I will leave you with one key thought….campaigns are about conversation. Digital media= involvement= conversation.

Suffice to say, we all pretty much sucked at radio. Not because  we can’t write, but because we all seemed to get caught scripting something hilarious/moving, without any clear ‘idea’ behind it. Nothing like a good slap in the face to snap you out of your own self indulgence!

Last night, Ben O’Brien (CD of Kastner & Partners/also ran AWARD School for a couple of years) gave us a lecture on ‘Art Direction & Copywriting’. READ MORE >

Last night we presented our ideas for the ASICS campaign. Everyone had some pretty solid ideas. Which is good, but scary. Pretty sure I’ll be scrapping everything I’ve done, in the hopes of coming up with something ‘great’. That, or hope a plague hits Australia (obviously, I would survive).

Come thursday, I had two thirds of f##k all ideas and was ready to cry. Where did I go wrong? Well, I spent too much time trying to solve the issues from the first brief, I didn’t dedicate enough time to this brief. Resulting in neither being solved. Expecting to be crucified, I was pleasantly surprised when my tutor gave me some positive feedback.

So, last week I presented my ideas for the Odor Eaters brief to the rest of the class (note: I’ve always hated public speaking). Of the six of us, there was quite a range, in terms of volume. One guy came to class with two scamps he’d mocked up in the cab over. Another, had around 150 (clearly an exaggeration…but it felt that way). READ MORE >
